Hi all,

My new 2ft cube tank is coming after 2 weeks time and the supplied return pump is Eheim 1260. I think it is OK if I connect directly to the main tank  .

However, if connected directly to my chiller 1st b4 back to the main tank may be too weak liao...am i right :whistle ?

Should I change the return pump to 1262 instead since the tank not yet delivered :eyebrow: ! or should use another pump to handle chiller instead :pinch: ?

I need all your comments, pls kindly advice  .

Thanks.

depends on whether you wanna keep SPS.

Mine's a 2.5x2x2 and am using a 1260. (LPS + softies only)

1260 runs to my chiller and returns to main tank. (no dedicated return pump).

The flow appears to be just nice. In fact, looks better than when i'm using AB5000) to T-off to chiller and return.

Also, are you using wavemakers? I'm using 2x6025 + nano wavebox to ensure enuff circulation and internal flow.

Maybe you can try using 1x1262 + scwd + 1 wavemaker... that would be something that i wanna try in future.

U mean T out to chiller right? Well, 1000L/H to chiller and 2000-2500L/H to main tank. So, I think 1262 is better, correct me if i'm wrong.

No, not T out. I connected directly from the 1260 to chiller then to main tank----> one serial path :whistle !

yap...like your.

For wavemaker, I'll be using my current Vortech MP20 plus one more MP20/MP40 :eyebrow: !

I'm using one 1262 in a 24"x20"x20" running through a SCWD into my tank, and I still find the flow a little inadequate!

I keep mostly zoas, some sps and mushrooms. Everything seems to be doing ok for now...mushrooms especially are opening up wide and splitting.

Bro, 1 MP20 not enough flow? Why don't you upgrade it to a MP40? Just curious...

One MP40 may be too strong and the flow will be in one direction whereas 2 MP20 can placed at 2 rear side of the tank( separated by the centre EOF compartment) which able to produce better flow lor :whistle !

Just out of curiousity, if you run through your chiller 1st then into your tank wouldn't the flow rate be too high for the chiller to effectively cool the water? What I am trying to say is that the water is not cool down to the required temp but already pump out of the chiller because of the high flow rate. If it this happens then your chiller will be running on for longer to recycle all that water again than if the flow rate were slower to cool the same amount of water.

Just a thought........

I will also suggest a 1262 plus a t-off to chiller and both return into your main tank. ;)

But ensure that your overflow box and durso can handle the flow.

May be at the 1st time it take longer to kick out.... after that it will maintain the kick in/out liao when temperature hit the desired degree lor  !

You must also consider the head loss for the pump too mah  .

Tank maker said the External Overflow box is design to cater 1260, if 1262 need to increase the length of the EOB <_< !

btw, I have only one return pipe and do not want many piping behind the tank lor :pinch: !

think the type of pipe doesn't really matter much as long as it is suitable for marine use. For GF, i tihnk their check valve is good and if you choose to use them, you may have to stick to them on certain piping. The only thing to take note is the diameter of your return to your sump. The bigger it is, the more flexibility you have to use higher powered pump. If too big, can always use reducer to compensate. Hence, bigger is better than smaller. just my 2 cents worth opinion and open to correction.

"I'll be using GF instead of Japan piping. Isit ok ?"

GF is good pipe but does not really affect the selection of pumps

Yes, that what I am worried about, if your tank EOB or durso pipe is already design to handle flow created by 1260, it is not adviseable to upgrade to 1262.

Bro... i'm curious... what are the factors that determines the pump to be used?? Unless the box is done really small... else in my instance, it should be okie...

for mine... (i believe it's very similar to bro jameshong) i tried to run 1260 + AB5000 then 1260 alone... in both cases, they're okie... And i've removed my durso pipe... the noise is quite acceptable...

Yup, your overflow box is quite big.

There is a formula to calculate overflow width and pipe sizes, I like to use those at reef central. ;)

Hi bro,

What is your overflow dimension?

For me, I'll check with my tank maker :eyebrow: .

Hi bro,

What is your overflow dimension?

For me, I'll check with my tank maker :eyebrow: .

L: 41cm

B: 12cm

H: 37cm

(this is measuring the exterior of the EOB). glass = 10mm

how abt urs?? i'm using 1 overflow pipe as well.. but my recommendation is to go 2 overflow... whether you use it or not is another matter.
