Scaping: suspended live rocks

Recommended Posts

just came across this weird thought, has anyone ever thought/done of suspended (top hang) live rock in their tank?

how about this, glue all the rocks to a nice shape in one giant piece, hang the rock from tank top (it should not be too heavy in water, right?), and with a bare bottom?

nice though.. but what if the cable holding the rock snaps and cause ur rock to drop onto the tank.. tank sure KO one... would believe corals may drop as well and may potentially crack or scratch the tank as well... just my 2 cents!

A man with a reef tank is a man with an empty wallet...

I remember seeing some one tank's like this, he glued/epoxy some tonga branches together, some by cable tie, then hang the whole thing by using plastic hooks or by the reinforcements glass pieces then the bottom was some rocks and plants.

Yes I guess that if you want to free bottom of your tank, this would be alright, but some of the fishes likes hiding under rocks and then the may not like this arrangement.

the risk is there, but i suppose those stainless steel fixtures should not be that easy to give way :P

the rock structure can still have holes for them.

the whole question, will it be nicer? can still have sandbed actually, so in case the rock drop there is still some protection..

honestly i am not going to be that crazy, but may try to hang a small piece of rock if got time later :P

Question is how much rocks we are talking about and where you are mounting the cables to. Live rocks are not as light as we think they are, esp after bonding a whole bunch together. The point at which you mount the cables to would have to be able to handle the load. If you are talking about the side of the tank or bracing, then confirm cannot la, the weight would pull the joints inwards and weaken the silicon, sure leak within weeks one (I'm assuming you are talking about a lot of live rocks here).

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate.

And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.
