Cleaner Wrasse

Juz to share my experiences...

I've IDed and confirmed with the help of the "World Atlas of Marine Fishes" and some sites from the net on the following wrasse, Pseudodax Moluccanus (Chisel-tooth Wrasse). This is not your typical cleaner wrasse (doctor fish). The pic (poorly taken) from my tank shows the juvenile pattern of this fish. The recorded size of this wrasse is 25cm, location of find is from Indo-west and Red Sea. Juv colour is like the common doctor fish but it's much intense and attractive. It's middle colour is jet black with 2 intense blue stripe one at the bottom and one at the top with a tinge of orangy red on it's high fin.

Reason for posting this to help reefer who might thought this is another nice colour doctor fish. Looking at the mouth and teeth of this fish once grown, I think it's not really reef-safe.

Wow, nice tank with sponges and dendronepthya - how long you have been keeping them?

For chisel tooth wrasse, I have kept it before, they can reach a max size of 25cm and will pose a threat to your shrimp and even some smaller crabs and hermit.

No I meant my tank is 7 yrs old but the sponges is abt 1 yr old and dendronepthya is new lah. Juz added not long ago. I'm not that skillful to keep corals for long. So far the longest one is the Leather coral that I've been keeping for more than 5 yrs liao and got babies growing on the side wall of the tank near to the main stock.
