LOL you see wrongly is it? I thought the "bubble deflector" looked like a scoop of ice cream too, it is actually a plastic measuring spoon. The foam just reminds me of shampoo haha.

Yah the water level has to be kept constant, if not it will become very noisy if there is too much or too little water. Even the water displaced by sticking my hand into the tank can cause the gushing air sound.

Where did you place the sk-05 skimmer? I have this impression that it is oversized, could be wrong

same compartment as yours... it is oversize if you plug in all the components.. however i removed the filter to prevent microbubbles and it managed to fit nicely.. however.. the skimmer cannot be trusted... haha.. doesnt really skim at all!

I like to find materials for DIY from the weirdest sources.

Oh okay, I know liao. Anyway, I think all china brand skimmers are like that haha, my Boyu skimmer also, break in for 2 weeks, then produce almost clear skim mate, might as well don't use.

That's chaetomorpha, or chaeto in short, a kind of algae. I put it in a basket so that it can remove nutrients like nitrate (NO3) and phosphate (PO4) through photosynthesis (needs light).
