SRC Member albinosage Posted April 26, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted April 26, 2009 hey nice tank.. i recently set-up a 24g JBJ nano cube also Im going skimmerless cos i realise that the tunze 9002 couldn't fit behind the compartments behind. How long did u cycle your tank before adding livestocks? My tank is currently 1 week old.. Thanks for the compliments Are you starting the tank from scratch? My tank completed cycling in about 2 weeks, but I was using about 600 grams of biohome which I placed in my old tank 1 month before to seed with bacteria. 6kg of cured live rocks was from previous tank, while the remaining 9kg was bought new but placed in bucket to cycle 1 month before starting the 24G. To sum it up, I cycled the tank even before I bought it Quote My 1.5ft nano cube My 24G nano tank (Decommed) I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. SRC Member [d]3v|L Posted April 26, 2009 SRC Member Share Posted April 26, 2009 Yeap I'm starting it from scratch.. But my LRs are cured and from a LFS.. My nitrate is ridiculously high tho.. out 50ppm. Are u running your skimmer yet? Quote ORDed back to studies and reefing again..
SRC Member albinosage Posted April 26, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted April 26, 2009 Nope, not yet. I'm monitoring my nitrate levels now, it is still undetectable, the colour did change slightly in the test tube, but not enough to register any reading when compared to the colour chart. Wanna see how long I can go without water change without a skimmer Quote My 1.5ft nano cube My 24G nano tank (Decommed) I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. SRC Member albinosage Posted May 3, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 3, 2009 Some pictures of the tank inhabitants at night, photos illuminated with LED torch light Clownfish hosting on the bubble coral. SRC Member albinosage Posted May 3, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 3, 2009 The rest of the fishes sleep in the multi-storey cave. They seem to have split the space quite fairly hahaha. Pointed the LED torchlight at the tank just to spy on them minutes after lights out, was wondering why the water is so dusty... It suddenly dawned upon me: they are freshly born larvae attracted to the light! Two big black eyes with a tiny tail, roundish shape and hopping around the water column. There must have been hundreds of them flooding the entire tank. The only live stock I have in pairs are the sea horse, pom pom crabs (currently carrying eggs) and cleaner shrimp, from the shape and movement, I'm guessing they are shrimp larvae. Doesn't matter what they are now, they ended up as tasty midnight snack for the seahorses haha. SRC Member albinosage Posted May 3, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 3, 2009 Bubble coral with the porcelain crab on the right, stretching his "fan" out to catch food particles, marble star playing dead in the background as usual haha! Close up of the clown fish, he's so tiny (1 inch) and fast, it's hard to get a good picture of him: *cough cough* "H1N1 virus doesn't spread under water right?" SRC Member albinosage Posted May 11, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 11, 2009 Cute! Bro, how do you keep your cheato so clean? Mine kept trapping dirt... I replied you in your thread already, but anyway, the chaeto is kept clean by my starfish, snails and seahorse. I rinse it once a month in old water when I'm harvesting the chaeto love the YMCA Hahaha, yah the action reminds me of nemo's dad when he is flapping around nervously. The colour of ur clownfish is nice and intense.. Have been looking for a pair of true clowns but i seldom see them in shipments now.. Mine is an Ocellaris clownfish, so it's false perc(?). SRC Member albinosage Posted May 11, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 11, 2009 Did some tank maintenance last night, noticed that coraline algae is starting to form on my betta box and elsewhere in the tank Here's the contents of the betta box for those who asked: All frags accounted for, but too busy to pass to reefers who asked for them haha. SRC Member albinosage Posted May 11, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 11, 2009 New addition to the tank, bought last friday, "Why you lookin' at me huh?": Lyretail Hawkfish (Cyprinocirrhites polyactus). Sits around all day staring at me like a hawkfish normally would, but swims in the water column when feeding, like an anthias. Even the blotchy anthias was fooled, and started to chase the intruding "anthias" off it's territory. SRC Member albinosage Posted May 11, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 11, 2009 Not yet! Hahaha, doing an experiment now, see how much nitrate is produced in a 2 week period with heavy feeding and without water change. As of yesterday, it was 5ppm before water change. Since NO3 and PO4 is not a problem for me, I won't be running the skimmer for the time being, I think dissolved organic substances can be beneficial for the corals.
