what crab is this?

that is a porcelain crab. live in anemones especially carpet anemones. i have one living under my torch coral. it is peaceful, filter feeder. and may occasiaonlly eat bigger pieces of food. willl not harm the clownfish. however, if a clown fish is hosting anemone, the crab may choose to live there too. then they will compete for space but the crab usually ends up losing.

no worries. harmless and a great addition to a reef tank

Very interesting and entertaining crab to keep in a nano tank, but as the name suggests, it is easily broken like porcelain. I have a similar one. Lost the right claw and a couple of legs while scrambling for food, then when it grew back, he lost the left claw and the other legs. Last I saw him, he had NO claws or legs, just a floating head, literally! Probably got into a fight with the other crabs.

My 1.5ft nano cube

My 24G nano tank (Decommed)

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate.

And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

Thanks LemonLemon and binosage. Its amazing how you guys ID the crab with my lousy 1MP handphone camera LOL.

The picture u posted did the crab more justice man.

This morning I saw it pointing its claws at the boxer shrimp when they were within 1inch of each other and I thought they were gonna fight.

Is boxer shrimp agressive by nature? Don;t wan to see any of them lost their claws man.

boxer shrimps are very aggressive. seen them catch and eat small fishes like chromis before. the porcelain crab is a very peaceful natured invert and most likely was defending itself against the boxer shrimp and not looking to pick out a fight.

Oh man.. Last night I bought a shrimp, the porcelain crab and a $1 clown.. Only when I got home last night I realised the shrimp is a boxer shrimp instead of the cleaner shrimp after comparation cos I got a cleaner shrimp 2which I bought 2 days ago in my 12 gallon after 3 weeks of cycling.

Now I have to worry about the boxer shrimp and my $1 clown.. hopefully when I got home later they are all Okay.. Do you think i should take out the boxer shrimp?

not really. they are aggressive but usually only towards other inverts. they are not those killing machines that go around deliberately eating small clownfishes. don't worry. just dun add 2 boxers together unless u wan them to tear each other apart haha! it is up to you if you want to remove it. depends on the individual. some are more tolerant while others really enjoy being a bully. prodivde more rocks and caves for it to establish a territory

Whoah bro, you got a Octaplegic crab? Going to put him in a betta box and try to nurse it back to health / keep it alive?

Can the poor thing even feed without its filter arms?!
