what is the purpose of the "air stone"?

must i tune it? where should i place it or just leave as it is?

the air valve is to allow you to control the amount of air entering ur skimmer.

to set it wet skim, normally reefr would allow maximum amount of air intake into the skimmer without overflowing.

dry skim, set it at the skimmer neck.

in some cases, it act as a silencer

As far as I know, Reef Octopus does not have air flow control. It is a silencer.

That's a silencer. Remove the cap and u will find that air enters via the tube into the skimmer.

U can choose to put the cap on or off, depending on your preference. It does not affects the performance of the skimmer.

the skimmate is definatly not cleaned =)

it looked normal...

if u dun want to clean the skimmer cup so often, u have to tune the air valve to allow maximum air to go in without overflowing the cup. but that will depend the capability of the skimer as well.

I have the same problem as ur...

Seems like the bubbles only touch the lid of the skimmer & just stay there & dry... they dont flow much to the collection cup.

where u able to solve?

i believe u play ard with the water level to achieve the optimal results according to ur liking.

no solution at the moment

maybe some reef octopus expert can advise

manage to resolve this issue by maintaining constant water level in sump tank

chiller + auto topup definately helps

no more tuning, cheers

Yes, in sump skimmer normally require constant level to have good skimmate.
