hello all, got my tank a skimmer today and i'm not too sure of how to get it set up. this is how it is now. the air inlet on the left, i don't think its supposed to be there but i connected it to a wood piece and the bubbles seem smaller. the left tube is also where the water is supposed to exit i think. but if i only rely on the air tube on the right the bubbles are rather big.

anyone has any advice?

what model skimmer are you using? I'm guessing its a needlewheel skimmer? Are you using an additional airpump to drive air through an airstone via the outflow tube (left)?

If it is a needlewheel, u don't need the air pump via the outflow tube (left).

It looks like a venturi skimmer to me.

1) Remove the wooden air stone and tubing to the left of the skimmer.

2) Connect the tubing to the right piping where u stated air. The other end of the tube has to be exposed to the air.

3) Connect a pump to the input pipe that u have indicate water.

Maybe u could state your brand of the skimmer so that we may be able to help identify the type of skimmer u have on hand.

Best Regards,

Morpheous

nope no needle or wheel inside. it was sold to be as a boyu skimmer but i search online i couldn't find anything similar. looks more like a jebo to me but still not a perfect match

i understand #1 but i'm confused with #2. on the right hand side there is already a tubing connected to an air pump. when you said exposed to air does it mean that i dont require an air pump at all?

Yes, no need an air pump. The air tube is expose to air mean that it must be above water so air could be intake from the hose.

You tried with fresh water? If yes, skimmer won't be able to produce fine bubbles with fresh water la.

If you tried with salt water and the bubble is still coarse, then it could be your venturi pipe opening is too large. Also mean faulty.

yeap i tried with freshwater, no wonder <_<

the venturi pipe opening i think can adjust, turn the black black thing. if i used an air pump on the right to increase the bubble count, would be okay right?
