How do i know the clicking sound is from pistol shrimp or mantis? i cannot see it, just it's feedle when i shine light in its hole. There is once when my sand shifing goby tries to use the same hole as it home, i heard a click sound and the goby darted out. I have another pistol and randell goby pair but have never heard it click, just can see it busy at work pushing out all the sand.

If you hear clicking sound + see goby staying inthe same hole - confirm that in the same hole you will have a goby + pistol shrimp. The pistol shrimp has very bad eyesight but they can dig. Goby good eyesight but cannot dig so they both form a partnership to "look after each other - you scratch my back , I scratch yours".

Pistol shrimp are quite harmless.

If no fish or small invert die, then should not be mantis.

I found the cause of mine. It is a pistol shrimp, but it is the type that does not pair with goby(dark grey claw with dark brown/red body. I have catch it today by removing the rocks as it is scaring my randell goby and shrimp pair and there are 1 fish disappearance and 1 shrimp mystery death.

I like that video.... Just like street fighters!

Color looks like coral banded shrimp. The one in my old tank is brown, camouflage with the life rocks
