Fishes for new tank

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, im very new to this hobby so a big hello to all out there. Im planning to build a 100 gallon FOWLR tank with sump and im doing all the research from materials i can find online. I have also marked several fishes that are peaceful and easy to care for as a beginner from information gathered online. So here comes the questions

1. Is the inch per gallon rule feasible?

2. here is a list of the fishes i plan to include in my aquarium.

2x firefish

4x green/blue chromis

1x Red head solon fairy wrasse

1x Lemonpeel Angelfish

1x Royal Gramma Basslet

2x Ocellaris Clownfish

1x Blue Sapphire Damselfish

1x Auriga Butterflyfish

1x Wheeler's Watchman Goby

1x Blue Flavivertex Pseudochromis

from the information gathered online these fishes are generally peaceful and easy to care for. what i wan to ask is

2.1 Are these fishes really suitable for beginners as stated in some websites? If not why and what should i look out for?

2.2 Am i overstocking the 100 gallon tank?

2.3 What capacity sump should i use?

2.3 Can i keep invertebrates with the fishes above?

2.4 Can anyone enlighten me on the order to add the fishes to my tank?

2.5 Can those fishes be found in LFS?

Thats all for now and many thanks for reading this and pls help me:)

Thanks again!

hello, welcome to SRC and welcome to the hobby! if ur going for a 100 gallon tank, u are not really over stocking. most of ur fishes are small so i think u can afford to add more if u wish to in the future. i will try to answer some of ur questions.

1) yes these fishes are suitable for begginners. Some require a little more effort, but should be very hardy once acclimatised. some of the fishes u chose are also quite disease prone, so proper quarantine procedure should be carried out to reduce disease out breaks. i see u have chosen a lemonpeel and a threadfin/auriga butterfly. these are hardy and quite beginner fish as for as the genus for angelfish and butterflyfishes go, but do take note that the angelfish might need a more mature system. angels are quite prone to new tank syndrome. any angel experts here please rectify. get one that is already feeding. the auriga butterfly is quite good for beginners. generally more tolerant amonst the other butterflies. other than these 2, the rest are all ok. main thing to watch out for is prevention of disease (saves u alot of trouble), and make sure they are feeding well (:

2) no i don think u are overstocking ur 100 gallon. most of the fishes u chose are relatively small so should not be a problem

3) as for the sump, i am not sure. perhaps someone more technical would like to pitch in?

4) yes for the inverts. do keep an eye on the pseudochromis though...most are aggressive and have a liking towards inverts. cant say for the Blue Flavivertex Pseudochromis, never seen and heard of this fish before..

5) most of the fishes u chose are quite peaceful, so any order should be fine....but i would add the damsel (aggressive), pseudochromis, butterfly and angel LAST.

6) all fishes listed above are commonly found in LFS. i personally have not seen the Blue Flavivertex Pseudochromis in LFS's before, so i cannot really say much. Although the other fish u listed are regulars. take note that some fishes u choose only come in certain shipments and are not foud 24/7 sat LFS. lemonpeels are very common during hawaii shipments and royal grammas, during carribean shipment.

any more experience reefers would like to correct me if im wrong at any points please do so....

once again, welcome to SRC (:

oh and one more thing, i believe u have read up on proper cycling steps and all the basic aquarium care? if not, i suggest you do so. this is pivotal to a stable and healthy aquarium

Hi Bro

The coomon name for Blue Flavivertex Pseudochromis is also known as Sunrise Dottyback. Ever LFS in SG did bring in before. Think either LCK or sealife ever did.

You may wish to leave your contact with them as soon as there is shipment for this fish, sms you. This fish normally sell fast.

BTW dottybacks are semi-aggressive thus do not let it be the first fish in your tank.

If you think that you are likely to go into a reef tank (with LPS corals), skip the lemonpeel angel. Damselfishes can be quite aggressive to new comers added into the tank later on.

skip the auriga also. if u wanna go into corals.

i rather you keep bigger fish

imo looks a lot nicer

and get a over skim skimmer

current fish in my 322

1 x blue tang

1 x yellow tang

2 x black clown

2 x true percula

2 x chromis

will add 1-2 more fish, likely flame angel and neon goby

my 2 cents
