Please Suggest a Protein Skimmer

Recommended Posts

Hello Friends,

Please can you suggest me a suitable skimmer which I can install in my 48 gallon semi-reef tank. ..I do not have a sump so the only options for the skimmer are internal or a hang on back skimmer. Please can you suggest a suitable skimmer which is low in maintenance.

Can the Red Sea Prizm on this tank. Picture below: (not latest but it gives an idea of the dimension.

Thanks.

Hi sanju1998,

For your current setup, I would say the most straight forward option is Red Sea Prizm. It's not the best skimmer around the block, but then, your tank is neither too big nor too heavily stocked.

Thank You Friends for your prompt support.

Before I buy the Prizm, I would like to know, if this would fit externally as a hang on back, given the wooden hood that I have in the picture.

Secondly, does the Prizm overflow from the cup and flood the floor with water?

Thanks.

Thank You.

I will check the availability of the Aquamedic Biostar Flotor in India.

Hi Bro

If you connect the RedSea Primz accrodingly, the overflow of the collection cup can flow back to the intake of the skimmer. This would means it will never be overflow. Unless your water intake control is set to the max and the media compartment is choke.

However, have said that, you should tune the skimmer to skim correctly. Having overflow backwards means your skimate is too wet OR you are lazy in maintenance.

I run Red Sea Primz Pro on my 2 ft (24 G) and 1 ft (12 G) quarantine and they both works fine. However your tank is 48 G, it may not be good enough if you intend to heavy stock. You may wish to explore Deltec MCE 500 or MCE 600. I am currently setting up my 40G quarantine tank and running a MCE 600.

Hope this help. All the best.

You can check out Aqua C / Tunze nano..reviews for this brand is better than red sea prizm. Alternatively, you can check out Dymax nano skimmer that looks like Tunze which only cost $68, i think. Reborn has it.

It's called dymax nano skimmer...looks exactly like tunze nano..why dun you check out at reborn.

Thanks Friends,

I have shortlisted the Dymax (X30Nano or VS10 model) and Red Sea Prizm Deluxe. The rest of the suggested skimmers are not available in India and the available ones are pretty expensive.

Now, I need your help.

From the Dymax (X30Nano or VS10 model) and Red Sea Prizm Deluxe, what do you suggest for my tank before I buy.

Thanks a lot.

You can go for the dymax model....frankly, red sea prizm has not been getting good reviews in US. So, between the 2, must well get the cheaper one.

jus my 1cent you can actually buy a air wood skimmer.. http://www.jirehmarine.com/index.php?modul...mp;startnum=200 <- try dis webpage... As it used bubble in can contain air bubble you wun have to wori abt oxygen and at da same time its really clear the unwanted debris in da tank..Used it before and it can work wonder.. N from yur pic do you use air pump? its advisable not to use air bubble inside da tank..as it can irritate some corals and even fishes..

Sori if you think i am boring but i think it is you who is lame.
