LED VS T5HO

Recommended Posts

This is the comparision of LED and T5HO. The 18" LED is 50W, T5HO is 48W (16W x 3tubes). You may find the differenance between both of them which works in the same conditions.

The tank off lighting:

LEDs Daylight mode (50W):

T5HO light (16W x 3tubes):

LED's Blue light mode:

You can see the LEDs brings out the fluorescence of corals definitely.

Some additional pictures of the LED's Blue light mode and corals, that's fantistic!! It created a deep, beautiful Blue color and shimmer lines

no offence bro but i tink e brand of e t5 also play a part..

i c u on your t5 like w/o blue tubes (or maybe its due to e brand?)

not very fair justice given to e t5...

is your tank 1 feet? cus 2 feet is like 24W already for ATI tubes

another thing i want to ask is there fluctuation in spectrum of LEDS bulbs like MH ?

I concur with Amby.

Light set + tubes play a big part.

In your comparison, your LED has "blue spectrum". Does your T5 has actinic or blue tubes? This should determine whether it's a fair comparison.

What's the brand of the tubes and ballasts?

Any of your corals require strong lighting? Coz the clams on your sandbed doesn't seemed like it's opening fully? I could be wrong.

This being said, i've not seen a 1ft lightset (LED, PL or T5) that consumes 50W. That's quite a lot isn't it? I typical 1ft PL light only consumes like 18W. (I assume the test was done using 1ft lightset, since you're using a 16W T5)

However, the constant battle is the 'heat' component. Which of coz LED wins hands down!

look forward to hear more details from you.

It is not my tank, it is 18" thak, and the TSHO with 2 white, 1 blue.

I don't have any information about LED bulbs like MH.

The one who has done the test, he just bought LED light and made the comparison, he was using T5HO,

if the clams doesn't opening well, it because during the testing the light on and off, i think.

ah... i see. coz no mentions of it being an extraction from some other website.

can share the link to where u got this? i'm quite curious abt the LEDs.

If you look at this youtube video...reefers are not receptive of LEDs because of the price; just too freaking expensive compare to MH.

For 2 and 3 ft tanks...still ok....but if you have 4ft tank, u need 2 x 2ft oceanus fixture.

That's y reefers are still using MH + T5 for big tanks.
