not sure about the ammonia and nitrate but it makes my tank crystal clear. juz remember to change every 6 months.(although it says 5 years):lol::lol::lol:

activated carbon or chemipure is not gd.. firstly it absorb all the mineral and nutrient in the water.. fishes do need some of them. the colour will be nicer... and they do promote algae growth..

correct me if i am wrong...

actually its a good grade of carbon.. i change it every 5 months though and i test my nh3 all still 0.. and its good to make your water crystal clear..

acctually chemipure contain deionizing resins which make up part of the 10 ounces of the product. These resins are generally ineffective as filtrants in high ionic strength solution such as seawater.

and in term of adsorptive capacity from a scale

1 (most adsorptive capacity ) to 5 (less adsorptive capacity)

chemi pure rank 3...which is consider higher than the average brands.

Kee i dont think carbon promote algea growth ..Which i dont understand how u came with the idea that using carbons would promote algea growth ?

However itis also not true that on the statement on " carbon would absorb all the mineral and nutrient in the water " /

As carbon has the potential to absorb certain metals considered trace elements in seawater but several factors must be considered. Activated carbon has a higher affinity for organic compounds than metal. Ur protein skimmers would also remove substantial quantities of these trace elements as does the metabolism of all the specimens in the marine tank.

kee thus a good carbon would have low iodine number of below 500.

As there is still no conclusion that carbon promote algea growth and arent good.

:thanks:

Kee sorry abt the part of carbon promote algea growth ..

I under what u meant now.. In someway Yes..

But acctually all carbon contain PO4 which is a fuel source for undesirable algea growth. Only concern would be how much or little is the leeching.

:) But carbon is good for removal of DOCs..

Hi,

I don't quite understand how carbon can help keep water 'crystal clear'?

It help to keep our water clear and not yellowish because.

The reason of yellow tint in ur water refers to the present of laden of organic build up like organic acids , proteins. phenolics etc..

Thus carbon works 2 principles which is adsorption and absorption.

They would either taking in these organic by sorption/.
