Cloudy Water

Recommended Posts

First time setting up a marine tank. I start setting on sunday morning and up to today it already 2days but the water still look cloudy. Is this normal?

Tank Size 40 x 22 x 25cm (LxWxH)

I using API 5in1 Aquarium Test Strips and below is the result:

KH 240ppm (mg/L)

PH between 8.0 and 8.5

NO2- 0ppm (mg/L)

NO3-0ppm (mg/L)

Temperature 28.5C

Is the above reading consider normal?

What shall be my next step in cycling the water?

bro, you should place some live rocks and also get a skimmer to help cleanse the water. Check your SG level also. just my limited knowledge. Hope it helps.

Tank : 4 X 2 X 2 with low iron front panel and external overflow

Skimmer : BK SM200 with waste collector

Return Pumps : Red Dragon 6m3 and Ehiem 1262

FR : 2 X Deltec 509 & powered by AB2000

Nitrate Filter : Deltec NF 509 and tee off from AB2000

Calcium R'tor : Deltec PF 501 with RM secondary chamber

Kalkwasser R'tor : Deltec KM500

Chiller : Pansonic 1 HP Compressor with 20m titanium Coil

Wave Makers : 4 X Tunze 6055 with 7096 & Vortec MP40w

Controller : GHL Profilux

Lighting : ATI Powermodule 10 or 8 tubes

Water Top-up : Water Top-Up tank powered by Tunze Osmolator

External Monitor : American Pinpoint pH and Temp. Monitor for main tank and GHL Profilux Controller to measure temp, pH, Redox

to add on what Solo77 said... another thing to note that the cloudiness can be due to your new filteration not run-in yet. Add some treated live rocks and give it a few more days and the situation should improved.

So nice to see a clean new tank :-)

Are you using a canister as your mechanical filtration? Check your media used.

Normally if the filtration is working up to speed, water should clear in 1 -2 hours.

From the picture, I rough guess is your tank should be 2 ft * 1 ft * 1ft? I have a 2 * 1 * 1.5 ft tank using Ehiem 2226 and it clear up within an hour.

BTW are you using Salt mix or NSW?

Your light looks cool, can share the specs and where you brought it? How much also la.

I using salt mix.

The light i bought from aquastar for $25. 1white and 1blue light

Sistar,

Since you are using hang-on filter, make sure no bubbles going into the waters...bad for corals and fishes...they dun like bubbles.

I suggest you do w/o that hang-on filter.

Dose nitrifying bacteria into your waters to help with recycling.

Do not switch on yr lights during cycling.

based on the picture, you using 2 filter systems? one canister and the other hang-on or the hang-on is a filter ###### skimmer? my quarantine tank seems like your tank. I just use light, prism skimmer, inverts, snails and weekly water change to substain it. You must ask what you intend to keep before equiping your tank. Think a skimmer is important for your tank. Canister filter may need frequent washing to ensure it is not a Nitrite/nitrate time bomb....

Hi ting... i think you need more liverock for your cycling process. Good water circulation is also a must for a successful marine tank. As for media for your hang on filter, try using Biohome sinter glass as its good for nitrifying bateria to colonise.

Cloudiness could be the cause from a bacteria bloom. It should clear up after a few more days to a week, since its already 2 days and the water has not cleared up. You can start cycling by adding more LR to the setup.

just my 2 cents worth I am using a sander aquarientechnik from german

if ur canister filter has uv light off it and add bacteria for 48 hrs before turning it back on

my canister filter is also not strong thus no2 will hit the roof sometimes

maybe get a tonga rock for ur tank??

hehe see ya

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.
