Overflow compartment

Hey guys, u know the overflow box have those slits? are the slits important? i was wiping it today and it accidently fell off. the glue i think weaken liao. Is it ok to leave it like this? Now only one side have slits. the other side nothing. the flow now is better though.... is it important?

Is it those comb type slit? If yes, it is to prevent fish (especially those small size) from going into the overflow compartment. My clown fish went in a few times! Have a hard time net it out.

Oh/ other than that, not very important right? coz i dun have the silicon to glue it back. if it is not very urgent, then i will leave ir for awhile..
