Evaporation happens very fast

Is it me or wad? My 2ft tank seems to "lose" water rather quickly. One day i can be like topping up 1litre of water. I check for leak but couldn't find any. I have a nano tank beside it and doesnt seems to have much of a problem with the evaporation. Any input?

I guess bigger water surface leads to faster evaporation? My 1.5 Ft tank requires 3x 1.5 liter bottles of distilled water top offs for every 5 working days and 2 bottles for weekends (no AC, depend on cooling fan).

really? learn something new.

anyway, my 3.5ft lost like um... say maybe 2-3 litres every half a day till i installed a chiller. so my theory is, so long as water temperature is above room ambient temperature, evaporation will happen quickly. once u are able to lower water temperature thru a chiller, then it won't happen as quickly. after i installed a chiller, i don't top up water at all for 2-3 days

Hi Bro

If you are using colling fan, then evaporation will definite be high. My 3 * 2.5 * 2.5 need to top up 6 litres a day. You may consider auto-top up or chiller.

actually alot of factors one lehz

precipitation of the weather also plays a part..

i running 4 X t5 with fan but no chiller

1 day e max i try top 2 litres e most

if ur tank is open concept no hoooded type mayb evaporate a little bit more loh..

close concept e sump in cupboard normally slightly more humid..

beside seeing the water level go down very fast

u shld also c whether e salt is collected on ur tank glass a nt..

all the symtons plays a part..

if water evaporated very fast but salt not collected on your glass it might means something else..

we r all just too used to using test kits...

thanks for the input guys.. i guess it's normal.. i top up 1.5ltrs every 2 days. didnt noe bigger tank = faster evaporation. And ya, it's still cycling, so no chiller, no lights. Will observe once i install the chiller.

must be costly in the long run.. i also buying distilled for topping up..

I used 48 bottles of distilled water per month for my 2ft which works out to be approximately $22.

Installing chiller will be a better option in the long run esp using MH as the rate of evaporation is even faster.

I actually use more than 48 bottles a month as I use it to mix with salt for water change. I don't use an FR, and cheato works just fine for me, so I save on running cost.

48 bottles a month! wow!! thats like. more than 1 bottle a day... i think small tanks evaporate faster than bigger tangs? or is it the other way round

I think it should be bigger exposed surface area that experience faster evaporation.

48 bottles! stunning but true.. and im doing my first water change on my 2ft soon.. wonder how many bottles of 1.5 is sufficient..
