Been trying to shop around for an anemone for my clowns. After discussing with a few others, I feel that the magnfica will be appropriate however I have no idea how to ID one. Even after I read up alot, when i go to the fish farm, I am just stumped, can't identify it.

experienced anemone keepers, your advise will be very helpful to me. thanks!

Magnifica is quite a difficult anemone to keep... Actually magnifica can be found commonly... But normally brown and a bit purple, not much color... CF have a stock sometimes..

Magnifica anemones are usually rather large, if small, they will grow large. Most magnificas ive seen have coloured stems, usually purple / reddish-brown, tentacles are longish, usually green brown. Rather uncommon, from my own experience, donno about u all, usually LFS/LFF sell BTA or haitian, or the normal anemones. Magnificas are very hard to keep..... go for a BTA. Much easier... hope this helps

Sighz... Been searching for a photo of my old Magnifica but all not uploaded onto online album... Stucked in my spoilt laptop... It did very well for my tank, was staying put for very long untilll it started to move... Once it found its place try not to do any changes to the flow and lighting(Which i tink is very difficult)... Very nice anemone indeed...

Heteractis magnifica usually have purplish or bluish tone on the underside. Search google images, you'll find lots for reference.

Here's a visual reference guide as to which clowns hosts with which anemone - http://www.itdu.net/good/clown_fish.html

thanks guys, I understand that magnfica is considered the hardest to keep but it seems like its one of the few that the oscellaris will host in.

when you guys mean by colored underside, are you referring to the stem? I've seen a couple, purple stem, green tentacles but the tentacles towards the end have a little bulge (not as round as BTA) so because of that i'm afraid I identify it wrongly and its actually a BTA so i didn't buy.

You need not get magnifica for occellaris specifically, Occellaris will host most of the anemone that we can get in LFS lest the rock anemone.. My Previous batches of Black occellaris host in RBTA, Sebae.. Sometimes Carpet...

BTA can expand or contract their bubble tips. At times, the bubbles will be inflated/deflated. If it is very long and thin, it could mean that there is not enough light, and it is stretching to gain light.

i heard carpet anemone the sting very powerful is it? anything accidentally bump into it that's it. bye bye?

Yes, confirm gone case... i wont recommend Carpet for small tank and they are relatively difficult to take care of esp S.Haddoni... Your best bet is A RBTA or BTA... Can try M. Doreensis, It is Long Tentacle anemone, but for this species they only burrow in sand, so your flow must be not too high if you wanna keep these...

I really like the carpet tho' but I'm just worried that my more expensive bigger fish bump into it. I will cry ah. Ok I'll look for BTA. don't really like RBTA. see how it goes. thanks!
