If you like to scrub rock. Get dead rock, they are so clean and white, no need to waste time scrubbing. I have some, wanna exchange??

first time I get was given advise by the farm hand to spray with FW then scrub, put into tank, then take out everyday to scrub. Subsequent one, I get cleaner one, just put in, that all. Dun know right way or not, but so far OK, no die off.

Usually b4 i buy LR, uncured ones.. while i'm cycling my tank..

I'd prepare a basin of saltwater... when i bought those rocks back.. i'll clean them up in that basin.. not too much just removing algae.. light brush to clear those loose debris b4 iput them in my tank.

i was also advised to do that actually but i think you'll be better off not doing it...

it's to remove the worms and all the creatures living in the rock actually but at the same time, more benificial organisms get removed.. <_<

moreover, some of these worms and crabs would not be disturbed by a little freshwater but benificial bacteria definately would ;)

The world is such a wicked place, war btween the human race. People work to earn their bread, while across the sea they're counting dead

actually I dun see much different between fresh n saltwater bacteria..

someone enlighten me on tis??

Unless you do not both good aeration (n ammonia) for the LR, in time, it will becomes dead rock. other than scrubing the LR in FW, should not do any harm, then the usual amount of dead bacteria due to exposure to air, undistilled tapwater.

If there's two kind of cat. bacteria, salt and fresh, then soaking in FW, maybe inadvisable.

I read all the books, but they never mention which bacteria is which. of course if the die off is due to the drastic change in environment (PH, air exposure, salinity, temperature) then acceptable.

Other than that, I doubt there's any diffference in both.

Those bio-balls n stuffs also never indicate soley for FW or SW.

Freshwater and saltwater bacteria are different, you can try soaking liverocks in freshwater, it will turn extremely smelly due to the death of bacteria and stuff.

Scrub, not scrup.

Usually, it's only necessary to remove dead sponges by scraping them away. If you scrub, you'll lose a lot of beneficial stuff on the surface.

Bacteria that live in saltwater, when exposed to the lower salinity of freshwater will burst/lyse due to the water entering their body from osmotic gradient.
