SRC Member den04 Posted November 29, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 29, 2003 I did a search n can't seem to find any info on this in our forum... Looking at the angmo's tank setup, it seem many of them use RO/DI.... Just wondering if any sg uses it? Does it make a diff? how costly is it? Is it crucial esp for sps? terryansimon
RO/DI water. hmm I don't know many people who use it. the only major difference is that the water is much purer because of the removal of certain heavy metals. trace elements as well. I think.
SRC Member Tanzy Posted November 30, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 30, 2003 Generally speaking, the purity level of Singapore's tap water is good enough to not require a RO/DI unit. Water in UK tends to have a lot of magnesium and calcium, therefore making it very hard, affecting the dissolution of salt that's why they have to use RO/DI or distilled water. In some parts of US, the ground water that get's pumped up contains high levels of nitrates and phosphates. Quote Warning: Heavy handed moderator in operation. SRC Member surfedelic Posted November 30, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted November 30, 2003 Not quite sure about the quality of the water from our tap. As far as I know, whenever I do a water change, I always have a slight diatom bloom. I observed many times before I come to this conclusion. I am using tropic Marin salts - might be from the salts also. I understand that different location yield different level of minerals in the water. Used to know a friend who works with PUB, you will be surprise with what you could find in the strorage tank on the top of the HDB flat - bird shit , even dead rats (was told not sure whether it is true especially rats is hard to find nowsaday ). But my RO/DI unit finally arrive.
