6-line wrasse vs royal gramma

Recommended Posts

I was quite shocked yesterday when I realised that my 6 line wrasse had been aggressive to my other fish in the 25G tank. My royal gramma has been hiding inside LR all the time, with occasional darting out to eat before hiding again, and I saw that when it comes out, the wrasse will attack it and force it into hiding again. I also noticed some torn fins on my maroon clown, which I assume is done by the wrasse. I tried to catch it, but it is too agile and unless I dismantle the reef, it will remain in the tank. What do you guys think? I thought 6 line is fairly peaceful. It did not touch my Banggai cardinalfish though...

Sigh...I didn't know it is THAT aggressive.

And it is so happy in the tank, feeding till the tummy is bulging, and so tame it will even feed from hand...didn't know it can be such a little monster.

trap it or else u will have to tear down to get it

Have successfully trapped a 6-liner before using a mirror and a mineral water bottle.

Just cut the water bottle (500ml one is enough) below the neck. Stick a small round mirror on the interior base of the bottle.

Tie a fishing line to the bottle, long enough for you to pull the bottle out without getting yourself wet.

Being aggressive, the 6 liner will dart in and out of the bottle to fight its own image in the mirror.

Let it do so for a while. Once it starts to linger longer in the bottle, you will have all the time in the world to fish the bottle out with the fishy inside. :eyebrow:

  • 4 weeks later...

No way to bait it, it is too smart. I realise that now BOTH my royal gramma (my favorite fish-those cute black eyes) and my purple firefish are now in hiding. Strangely it left my smaller red banded goby, neon goby and very peaceful Banggai cardinalfish and maroon clown alone. Maybe the colour of the gramma and firefish bears some similarities with the wrasse?

Anyway I was unable to trap it and finally took my reef apart to net it....so happy I finally got it. It is now in my quarantine tank to be transfered to a kind bro who is willing to adopt it. :thanks:

i had my six line with me for 2 years before i added my royal gamma 3 months back... same as ur case, the six line whack the royal gamma till it's always hiding.

what i did was to increase feeding alittle to take the attention of the sixline away from the royal gamma, after 3 days the fighting stop..

i maybe lucky but you may like to try this method out.. =]

A man with a reef tank is a man with an empty wallet...

The problem with mine is that during feeding, it will gorge itself and after satiation, will actually PREVENT the firefish and gramma from eating by chasing them away from the food when they come to feed. So you can imagine how I wish I could spear it with my tweezers... :whistle

Anyway I took my reef apart and gave the wrasse to a friend.
