SRC Member Firestarter Posted December 7, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 7, 2008 Taped the brim of the tank carefully. Oh btw, the overflow 'comb' was loose after washing the tank as I applied a very thin layer of silicon only. Removed it out to silicon it back later. SRC Member jyoon Posted December 7, 2008 SRC Member Share Posted December 7, 2008 Hi Firestarter Great DIY. Also your patience steps by steps. Just my 2 cents: Is your overflow slightly too high? Almost the trim of your tank.
SRC Member Firestarter Posted December 8, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 8, 2008 Hi Firestarter Great DIY. Also your patience steps by steps. Just my 2 cents: Is your overflow slightly too high? Almost the trim of your tank. Thanks for you comments. Yes I think my overflow is too high. I wanted to make the water level high so I that the waterline would be hidden by they tank brim. That was before I decided to paste the electrical tape. Damn I'm starting to get worried about it now. MarcoVan
I think removing it now is a complete waste of your previous efforts. Likewise, I can suggest that your return pump be not something of a high output so that when your water flows over your false wall, it becomes like just a drizzle down your wall rather than a big splash from the edges. Hope you get what I mean (: Quote Happy Reefing, Marc J.

Do you think its too powerful? I'm afraid it might not just be a drizzle. Give it a try first. It's hard to say for the least it will be something of inadequecy or overpowering. Only after it's up and running then can we judge (: Quote Happy Reefing, Marc J. SRC Member Firestarter Posted December 12, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2008 Some minor updates again. Decided to take the time to drill my PVC pipe for the skimmer output. That is to allow water from the output of the skimmer to flow back into the IOS, and bubbles to dissipate at the top. Pic of the PVC pipe before its drilled. SRC Member Firestarter Posted December 12, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2008 Drill away! Didn't do a really good job at this, because I'm not really good at drilling, and the surface is curved, so I missed the spot many times. SRC Member Firestarter Posted December 12, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2008 Finally all the holes are drilled, 3 on each side. Note that the holes are not straight. SRC Member Firestarter Posted December 12, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2008 Overview of the tank. All equipment are not assembled yet. Discovered another problem again. After the tank has dried, noticed some unsightly silicon stains still stuck on the walls. Do you think its safe to use turpentine to wipe them off in the INSIDE of the tank? Ur nano will look even better with LS in it in due course Hi, thanks for your comments. To be honest, I'm not really good with DIY, just trying out as I go along. More updates to come. Next would be fitting the skimmer to the pump, and replacing the lightset wiring. Argh, still long way to go. SRC Member big_ben102000 Posted December 12, 2008 SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2008 should be fine to use turpentine, just wash the tank again later. bro i think you need to drill more holes in that PVC pipe for water to escape. althernatively, you can use a bigger drill bit to make the holes bigger. Hi bigben, thanks for the reply. I've used turpentine to wipe the inside of the tank to remove the stains. As for the PVC pipe, I have drilled a total of 6 holes, 3 on each side. Will definitely drill more holes if needed after testing the skimmer. Cheers. Thanks for all the reply guys, I still have much more to learn and need an outsider's view on anything to improvise.
