SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 15, 2008 SRC Member Share Posted November 15, 2008 I'm finally back into reefing after more than a year. Reason was because I was in Taiwan for overseas posting. I'd been planning this setup for many long anticipated months now, refer to my previous thread here. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...c=68987&hl= However, all plans had to go down the drain! Due to some unforeseen budget restrictions, had to scrap all ideas and make do with what little I have. But that isn't going to deter me from coming back into reefing. I hope you guys will help me along the way with my tank setup. Here's a picture of my miserable 'spare' tank with all my previous equipment that was sitting around for the past year. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 15, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 15, 2008 The tank is a standard 2ft Pentas tank with black bracing at brim. I also have another similar 1.2ft tank as well, seen in the picture with sand and some dead liverocks. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 15, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 15, 2008 Atman 104 Pump. Will be used as my skimmer pump. There's still some coloured coraline algae left after being place out of water for the past year. Hmmm.. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 15, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 15, 2008 My favourite, Seio M820. Do you think its an overkill for this tank? Planning to use it as a 'return pump' as well. More details to be explained later. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 15, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 15, 2008 Profantec fan. I think its too big for the tank though. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 15, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 15, 2008 Bought this when I was in Taiwan. Don't think I've seen any such containers in Singapore. Or maybe I just never open my eyes wide enough. The white one seems to be really good for placing chaeto. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 15, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 15, 2008 Acquired this, Weipro 2011 skimmer for my tank. I've personally used this skimmer before. Really value for money, and provides satisfactory results. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 16, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 Dug out all my previous lightsets. Some are DIY, others are modified. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 16, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 Decided to use my 1x36W PL lightset for this setup. Going to have to modify it heavily, which involves replacing the outdated iron ballasts with e-ballasts. Still thinking if I should convert it to a 2x36W fixture. If not, I'll use the single B/W tube. Quote Sometimes the good guys gotta do bad things to make the bad guys pay. - Harvey Specter
SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 16, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 Decided the location of where the tank will be. I don't know if the shelf can hold the weight though. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 16, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 Can't wait to see the tank in place, so I just placed everything to see how the tank will be like, with lights and skimmer. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 16, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 Its hard to manage without a sump. Furthermore, the tank is really small so have to make do with what little space I have. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 16, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 Another shot of the skimmer, placed on top of 2 styrofoam blocks. Note that the skimmer is not hanging at the tank side. Should I saw off the 'hook'? Or leave it there for future readjustments. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 16, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 16, 2008 Thats all for today. Will post more pictures of my tank setup as it goes on. Just some pictures of my previous 3ft tank. Oh I miss those days. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 17, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 17, 2008 oh the weipro can be hung on brace..... What's the sponge for... The sponge is used to dissipate the air bubbles from the water that is coming out from the skimmer. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 17, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 17, 2008 Just a simple drawing of how my tank will be like. Plan to get a sheet of acrylic and silicon it to make an IOS chamber. The return hole would be bigger than usual. That's because I plan to use my Seio M820 as my 'return pump'. It also helps to hide the wavemaker from the tank. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 18, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 18, 2008 I modified my existing lightset today. Its a 1x36W PL lightset with iron ballast, modded it to an e-ballast. Changed the colour of the lightset as well. Took out the ballast and bulb from another lightset that I worked on before. SRC Member Firestarter Posted November 18, 2008 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 18, 2008 Tested the bulb to see if its still working after 1 year.
