Changing Water ? More than 50 %

Hi Fellow Marine Enthusiasts,

I am about to do a monthly water change for my tank using LFS supply from LCK (Sungei Tengah) this weekend.

Can advise whether it is advisable to change abt 50% or more of the water at one time bcos my nitrate level is still high i.e. abv 50 ppm during my last change of water which is abt 20 - 25 %.

Will there be any effects or stress cause to the tank inhabitants i.e. fishes, snails or reef lobsters ?

This is probably due to high bioload and also I do not have the benefits of a sump or refugium to control the nitrate level.

although effective, the 50% will stress your livestock greatly....do think properly

50% should be ok provided your tank water parameters are not too skewed eg. very low or very high PH, temp or salinity.

If you keep these within the normal recommended reef tank parameters, the new salt water should not cause any shock.

make sure the parameters of the old water and new water are about the same....as mentioned earlier..

I will suggest not too..

it will greatly stress the fishes, esp for smaller tanks

like 2ft n below. ich n stuff may comes abt, esp for surgeon fishes..

suggest u do biweekly or weekly (if u damn hardworking like me last time) change.

best is weekly do a 10% change, if u dun change

one week also can do..

I do abt 15-20% change of water biweekly.

also its not easy to get the same parameters as the "old" water. Major concern will be PH n temperature lohz.
