Skimmer 24/7

Well im sure by now most reefer should have one way or another feel the pinch of increased in pub bill.

Question:

Just wonder beside setting timer for lights + wave maker, anyone set timer on their skimmer?

Question:

Do we actually need to on skimmer 24/7? If 6fts tank is fowlr-using deltex api 702 how long do you think i should on my skimmer?

Question:

Will the on/off using timer will spoil the pump/motor of skimmer?

Better to run 24/7.

I've reduced my MH from 8hr to 7hr. I think the skimmer should run 24/7 but maybe you can try running it 75% of the time (eg. 8hr ON, 4hr OFF). It could save some $$$.

We need to note that the skimmer pumps are not design to be turn off and on so regularly.

It may do more harm to the pocket in the longer run.

thx guys for sharing. after 2nd thoughts i think what thomas said is true. turning skimmer on/off might damage the pumps. so better to leave it 24/7.
