I guess sometimes it is also up to the individual fish. I have a maroon kept with 3 yellow tail, 2 yellow belly, 2 domino, 2 striped, 2 blue devil, 2 yellow horizonally stripe ones (dunno name), and so far the fishes do not even bother with the clown, the damsels are all happily chasing after one another damsels.

Yah... Basically that is like my sort of "trash" tank. The damsels are all initially bought by my other colleagues, but as we grew into the hobby and realise the "compatibility" of damsels with other fishes/corals. So we had another tank at the bottom rack to house these fishes.

The maroon was bought initially to be introduced into the reef tank, but the common clown which was there initially did not like new company, so we had no choice but to keep it there too. Currently they all seem quite happy.
