Duration of treatment of marine ich

Recommended Posts

A few white spots just apeared on my small newly purchased blue tang yesterday. I immediately fed all the fishes with garlic soaked Dr Bassler ###### and this morning moved the tang into a newly set up quarantine with copper treatment (Cuprazine, I think). The Salifert test for copper not very good, somehow.

My question is: how long do I keep my tang in the copper treated QT? Also, how frequent are the dosing...as instructions are to treat for a certain number of days, but does this mean the copper meds must be added daily? Won't the copper levels in the tank rise to dangerous levels? I will be monitoring the levels daily to minimise overdose.

Thanks for any advice.

Why not try hyposalinity?

Too much copper is toxic and too little has little effects. I will leave this method as the last alternative.

Just add enough copper such that the total copper concentration stays at the therapeutic level. I would do small water changes daily by siphoning the bottom. Top up with fresh saltwater and add copper to ensure that the overall copper concentration is maintained. Do not perform hyposalinity when dosing copper.

Always something more important than fish.
