Help needed to trap Domino Damsel

Hi bros,

Anyone has advice on methods to catch my 2 domino damsels in the tank. My domino damsel are growing fast, and are starting to chase the smaller fish in my tank. I need to trap them before I can put them up for sale, but I have no idea how to trap them effectively.

Have tried to do a DIY trap by myself, using a plastic bottle with prawn meat inside the trap, but the domino damsels are either too big to go through the bottle neck opening, or not fooled into going into the trap. I require help from other experienced reefers on any trapping methods to help catch my damsels. If nothing can be done to trap them, my last resort would be to remove all the LRs in the tank to trap them, but I don't wanna do it yet since it's tedious and stresses the other fishes unnecessarily. =(

Some reefers may have fish traps to loan you. Where is your location? If not, LFS do sell them.

hi bro, you may wish to do a search cos i ever saw someone who diy his own trap and proven successful. In general, they will have mirror, their favourite food, those big soft drink bottle, etc. The other method is using bright light to blind them in the morning but this is provided that they dont hide in "cave", etc.

Hope this help.

i stay in the bukit batok area. are these fish traps expensive?

Hi Dratino,

Have U tried scooping out the fishes with a net after they have gone to sleep?

At about 6am in the morning when your fishes are still sleeping, prepare a temporary container with water.

Turn on your tank lighting full blast. Just try to reach in & scoop them out.
