Mangrove experiment

I picked up a single piece of mangrove floating on the beach yesterday.

I thought it would be nice if I could make the mangrove grow, so I brought it home.

Got a 1.5L water bottle, cut it in half, added some sand into the bottle and placed the mangrove into the sand carefully, so as not to break the root.

Hope it survives. I think the light might not be strong enough. Its been cloudy the whole day, so no sunlight.

Bro, saw quite a number of mangroves selling at pet****, left inside the shop with normal room lite, in a bare tank they seem to be growing well...each mangrove have > 1 leaf...

Well, I don't know if I should disclose the location to prevent ppl from swarming there to collect mangrove shoots. But its not Pasir Ris beach.

west coast park also have. you just need to know where and be prepared to soil your shoes a little. you can even get those pods that have started germinating.

No worries, at low tides, you will find LOTS of them around Changi, East Coast Park, Pulau Ubin, Lim Chu Kang, with some drifted as far away as southern islands and beyond. These are plentiful in Singapore and Johore.

Slime algae do breed pods.I should do that with my extra 1ft tank.As in the green one not the red one.

Update for the mangrove experiment. It seems to be growing fine and well. Observed that it blooms extremely fast after changing the water.

Growth comparison. Plan to collect more and grow them in a proper tank with freshwater.

sorry got to ask... what are the benefits of mangrove to the reef aquarium? i see some reef shops selling though but i am not sure of its benefits.
