Coral

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm new in marine fish and my tank set up are as follow :-

4Ft Tank c/w 2tubes of 10,000K lighting, 1 tube marine blue light,

overflow pump system & shimmer and cooling fan w/o Chiller.

Water temp. 27degC and PH8.0.

Raises calcium, strontium, iodide, trace element supplement and

plantco concentrated food for the coral.

I would like to ask as follow :-

1) What is Coral Life Kalkwasser Plus?

2) How often do I have to add this?

3) Why does the coral in my tank not fully boom? No Chiller ???

4) Kindly advise what to do in order for the coral to boom fully?

Beside water temp. and PH, what else must I do???

Thanks & Regards,

Yellow Tang8

Since u mention my lighting is not good enough, may i ask u to recommend some suitable lights for me?

Anyway, my tank consist of tubeworms, hammer, sea fan, sea anemone, flower soft coral and few other soft corals.I would appreciate any help u would be able to give me. :thanks:

For starters, anemones require strong lighting to survive. it depends on what corals you have in mind. But the least you should go for in my opinion is PL.you should be able to keep most softies without problem

Since 10000k lighting is not good enough, plz tell me if 20000k is good enough

it is not the colour of the tubes that is insufficient, it is the intensity.

so, changing from 10000K to 20000K doesn't help. you need to increase the number of tubes.

Maybe you can add in T5 tube, which will be more easier to install than the PL tubes.

i think intensity refers to wattage. here's an excerpt from About.Com which discusses the "Rule of Thumb" in terms of wattage:

"The general rule of thumb for a reef system calls for 3 to 5 watts per actual gallonage of water. A classic example of this is best visualized using the industry standard, a 55 gallon glass aquarium. Using the above "Rule" this reef should have a minimum of 165 watts to 275 watts in order to provide the intensity necessary for photosynthesis to take place within marine organism's polyps or tissues."

Hope this helps.

1. Via-Aqua MultiSkimmer - $25.00

2. DIY Kalk Reactor - $25.00

3. Atman Protein Skimmer - $25.00

I missed out this question, what is tank parameter?

I believe what he's talking about is 'water parameters'... :P

Tank parameter...I conclude...must mean, the ingredients of the glass used, the type of silicon...
