Households to see average rise of about 22% in electricity bills from Oct

By Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 29 September 2008 1035 hrs

SINGAPORE: Higher oil prices have pushed up electricity prices for this quarter by about a fifth.

SP Services said on Monday households will see an average increase of 21.46 per cent in electricity bills, when average electricity tariffs go up by 5.38 cents per kilowatt-hour.

On average, all SP Services customers will face a 21.89 per cent increase.

For the period from October 1 to December 31, tariffs have been pegged to a higher "forward fuel oil price" of S$155.14 per barrel.

This price is 38.06 per cent higher than the S$112.35 per barrel in this current quarter.

The electricity tariff is reviewed quarterly and adjusted in line with fluctuations in the cost of electricity, and approved by the Energy Market Authority.

At a news conference on Monday, the Authority's chief executive Khoo Chin Hean said that the increase is the highest so far this year.

Sighz...hopefully it does not cause more decom. The liberatisation of energy market doesnt see to be effective.....and pegging to future and quarterly review doesnt seem responsive.

after hearing the news, might consider the following points to strike back

1. increas tank temperature to 27-28 :fear: now 26-27

2. reduce 4 x 250w :nuke: MH to 8 hours, now 10-12 hours

3. reduce overall water volumn by 10% (lower refugium water level)

4. reduce refugium lighting to 12 hours, now 16 hours.

5. skimmer pump reduce to 6 hours, now only off at night

6. less farm visit, now once a week :whistle

hope my SPS would'nt protest by showing brown faces :cry2:

Sian liao...just as i restart my marine tank, heard that news on elect charge up 21% from Oct 08!! That's a hell of a jump in price! Average family like mine will be most badly hit. Think i can really forget about LPS liao.

Since i got no chiller, i will work on the lightings.

1. Will stick to 3 T5HO tubes, instead of 4 T5HO. And eventually, 2 T5HO tubes.

2. Reduce lighting period for both main and sump tanks.

3. Sell away my freshwater tank, if possible.

Damn.... saw the news after i just redo/changed my tank!!!!!

just replaced my 2 yr old tank as algae were seeping into the silicon and there were some bubbles in the silicon.lousy tank maker...better replaced b4 it collapsed. took me 3 days n nights to do the bloody job...nearly gave up in the wee hrs when i am so dead tired. only slept 3 hrs for 3days! Add another 10 cm for the height as i cant change the other dimension..ie., the new tank is 117x95x70cm

hope my bill dont shoot up too much!!! mine so far is around 300plus. we don't on aircon.
