Some of the live rocks comes with pest like worms, crabs etc. If I were to cycled my tank from scratch with the Liverocks, could I simply dipped the liverocks into hot boiling water before putting them into my tank for cycling? (the hot water will killed all the living pest hiding in the liverocks rite?)

That will kill just about everything else you bought the rock for.

wah thats worst than soaking it in fresh water. if you ndun want the worms, soak it in fresh water for1-2 mins and they will come out.

but if you do that must as well by normal rocks.

(what u think is also what i think when i first started. now still thinking to to kill all inhabitants or not.)

no use..the crabs r damn hardy...can even survive the cycling period..

The reason you spend so much money for them is because of the bateria living on them.boiling them is the same as burning your money.And by the time you are done with them, you wont have anything left to cycle with.

For worms... you rinse the LR with FW and spray water in to all the hole in the LR... den put the LR in to SW... wait a few minutes... Voila out they come... i dunno abt other.. work for me...

errrr...we do use tap water to scrub off the dirt,mud from the rocks b4 putting into tank for cycling rite? wun tat killed the bacteria too?

That will only cause minimal bacteria dieoff.

Side tracked abit...those uncured rocks..they dun have any bacteria on them rite?

Basically, the reason they are called liverocks is because of the bacteria on them.All other stuff are just hitchhikers.Cured or uncured rocks all have nitrifying bacteria on them

i need to ask some question also.

is it better to rinse in super salty water or fresh water to get rid of the worms and crabs?

have seen a website saying about soaking it in 1.04 salinity to get all inhabitants out and from there choose which one u want to put back into the tank...

LL loh..each time when I armed myself with the thongs..it hide into the rocks lobang so that why I thot of killing "everything" on the rocks prior b4 cycling..
