New Gramma species on GBD...

Gramma sprungi

AMAZING!

two new species in the genus Gramma being discovered in such close time frames! First G. dejongi and now G. sprungi!

Very interesting how all the species of Gramma are found in the Atlantic.

I like G. sprungi! Very nice.

Come to think of it, the sprungi and dejongi looks like as if the royal gramma has been split into two separate fishes!

New Gramma species on GBD...

Gramma sprungi

It has not been confirmed. I fall into the category of pple believing that the fish is jux a variant of gramma loreto and not a new species, unless they are able to catch more of these so called "gramma sprungi" to prove that it actually is a stable and thriving population like gramma dejongi.

i'm with the other party.

the bone structure, markings and over-all appearance is so unlike G. loreto.

so interesting!

it's as if the yellow of loreto materialised into a full yellow dejongi, and the purple part of loreto materialised into sprungi!

Looks more related to the now banned Gramma brasiliensis.

Always something more important than fish.

Sorry think i no t clear, i'm not refering to the gramma loreto but the brazilian gramma, scientific name Gramma brasiliensis.

The sprungi gramma look like a aberrant gramma brasiliensis

And i doubt they are able to find more of these sprungi gramma, as the sprungi in the pic is caught in 2001 and is the only specimen seen thereafter.

So all the more it proves that it is prob not a new species but jux a color variant.

On first thought when I saw the photo and news, "isnt this a faded/aberrant brazilian gramma?", And no specimen after 2001, and unconfirmed species yet.. I think becos of the recent gramma craze, a different varient of gramma might cause another commotion like dejongi...

OMG

Chaetodon mesoleucos!

Been years since they last appeared in the trade excluding aquarama. A red-sea butterfly that never gets imported, dunno why.

LOOK AT THE SIZE!!! VERY VERY RARE SIZE!

usually 4-6 inches upon arrival.
