Beautiful, the tail is it's distinct beauty.

Wonder how much a pair goes for? :superman:

The fuscocaudatus clownfish is almost unobtainable.

they are found in the seychelles which includes nearby atolls and aldabra. aldabra and most parts of seychelles is a world heritage site and collection from those areas are prohibited.

however, the fuscocaudatus clowns can be collected from other nearby islands in seychelles that is not protected, but still remains an extremely rare, almost unobtainable species because there is no collection point there.

much like the chaetodon smithi butterfly. they are very commonly found in pitcairn island but because there are no collectors collecting those fishes in such obscure locations, the fish remains unobtainable. or is too expensive and non-feasable to go collect them.

yes the tail is it's distinct beauty.

the name of the clownfish comes from the tail. it's scientific name fuscocaudatus literally means "dark tail" when converted to english.

fusco = dark,

caudatus from the word caudal (fin) = tail.

Dr. tanaka's rhomboid and scott's flashing up a storm!

so rare to see a scott's fairy flashing. tanaka is one of the very few people i know who somehow manage to retain the colour of scott's fairy without it turning dull.

last time all these butterflies were regarded as prognathodes. including tinkeri complex and nippon butterfly.

they were split into the indo pacific series and the atlantic series.

omg.

crosshatch trigger x goldenback hybrid.

This is not a hybrid! This is the yet to be named rare deepwater triggerfish from christmas islands. That video is v old and when the fish first appearing, everybody tot it was a goldenback x crosshatch tat's why the title is still wrong. However it has now been confirmed it is a separate species on its own, awaiting proper ID. Only v few has appeared in the market becos as u can see, it's not a v attractive looking fish and some more it is a triggerfish, so not v popular. LA has one for sale now which has been stuck there for ages. jmaneyapanda of RC is keeping one if i'm not wrong. And reefbuilder has done a write up before here.

is this an alpha male flavo? nice leh!

NR0039831AF.jpg

yes.

this is a fully grown terminal male flavoguttatus anthias.

most anthias will develop this long dramatic forked tail when fully grown and also long ventral fins.

however, all anthias in the same "complex" and similar in appearance to flavoguttatus will share the same elongated dramatic long tail that the flavoguttatus posess.

they are the

- Pseudanthias lori (Tiger queen anthias)

- Pseudanthias smithvanizi (Princess anthias)

- Pseudanthias aurulentus (Golden anthias)

- Pseudanthias parvirostris (Sunset anthias)

- Pseudanthias privitera (Privitera anthias)
