Time to plan a road trip Hawaii!

I wonder why this little fish needs to be so colorful at such great depths?

Could it be to warn predators that it taste nasty? Or maybe it's a deep water cleaner fish? Just like e skunk shrimp, red and white

it is not intentionally colorful.

at those depths, red appears dark blue or black to help blend in with the deepwater and rocks. only at the surface can one appreciate the red coloration with the white stripes.

probably one of the first ever videos of C. narcosis feeding in captivity.

more info here : http://reefbuilders....ding-captivity/

Amazing fish! So fat so healthy.

I love the setup. Dim lighting with lots of nooks and crannies to create a deepwater and peaceful environment for the narcosis!!

Breathlessly beautiful.

flawless! i mean seriously this doesn't get any better. such a deepwater fish that's collected 450 ft, and flown to hawaii, then to japan, and it's feeding so well.

compared to C. colini which is caught in deep water but not as deep, and flown from indonesia to singapore. but c. colini won't feed and won't even last a few weeks before dying even in the best of care.

this shows you clearly that collection plays a HUGEEEE part and rufus kimura and his team are just too damn good at what they do.

But we cannot discount the possibility that narcosis may be hardier than colini although they are closely related.

But rufus specialise in deepwater collection. If there is anyone capable of collecting properly a fish as deep as narcosis, it has to be rufus!

Even the peppermint angel at waikiki was so healthy!

It shows that with proper collection, deepwater fishes are not as tough as we think.

But one thing for sure that contributes to their success is the provision of low temperature during acclimation.
