Hi. Bro.

I am new to Marine Aquaira hobby, I just setup 2 feet tank, after bought Live rock and wash it, with tab water, then I put in the tank.

After 3 days, there is something happen on my live rock, white color, like old cobwebs, removable....

What should I do ?

Hi Bro

Any thing that is marine will be killed by fresh water. Thus washing your rocks with tab water killed all the living organisim on the rocks. You will need to start the curing process by cycling the rocks with salt water our of your main tank if possible. If you have other live stock like fishes in the tank, best is to remove the rocks.

Hi Chai111,

Maybe you want to buy Live rock that are cured, if not cured them in a separate tank. Try not to wash LR with tap water, bcos it is turn into dead rock liao. It will defeat the purpose of buy live rock then.

Initially, the water was smelly, then I changed the water, now the situation is better.

Good. Now let your tank cycle and don't go back to that shop again, since they want you to fail from start

Yeap! Let your tank cycle for some time (few weeks to a month or so), perform some ANN test, once the 2 Ns' are low or even better zero, then you are ready to add in your desired livestocks...

PS: Senior reefers, do point out if any of my info above is/ are incorrect as I'm also just 1 month into Marine - I'm keeping a Nano setup...

just cycle ur tank. wait for nitrite and ammonia to get to zero then slowly stock.

Bro you doing fine, just follow bro JuzzMarine advised let the tank cycle. Btw the pic tell that it is not cobwebs but a kind of sponges. I do have live rock with such fauna and they doing well to filter the water column. Sadly mine been consumed by blue starfish (Linkia) haha.

Not to worry it is just the beginning of cyling process, you will discover more micro fauna you never imagine. That is all about marine world. Patient is the key.
