Canister filter

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this is my first post. I am currently into planted tank and intend to go into reefing. I understand the advantages of having a sump, but having one in my current 4x2x2 cabinet will be challenging. I intend to stock up high on live rocks and have a 2-3" sand bed. Is it feasible to use 2x Eheim 2028 canister filters in lieu of a sump? Thanks

I did use a canister on my 2 ft tank w/o sump. Its works for me and now its 1 year old.

However you will need to carter for your skimmer (if you intend to use a skimmer). WIth sump, lots of other equipment can be added.

Its definite nothing wrong just using canister filter. Salt water will have a layer of floating portein and thus you might need to have a surface extractor.

All the best.

Thanks. What will be the recommended medias for each of the 3 baskets in the 2028 filter? Would it be possible to hook a skimmer to a 2028, or I should be using a hang-on type? Any recommendation on brands? Regards
