Some questions about brown algae

I have been cycling my tank for about 1 week plus. ( I know it's still very early). A few days ago, there seems to have lots of brown stuff (diatoms?) appearing on my sand bed and on the wall of the glass.

My ammonia now 0ppm and my nitrite is more than 4ppm. ( have not measured my nitrate yet)

I am not using any lights at the moment.

My question is: Is it possible for diatoms to appear when the nitrite is so high?

diatoms appear when there are silicates normally...got little to do with your nitrites level..
