DIY Pipe

Dear DIY experts,

I am thinking of doing my own piping for a 4 ft x 2ft x 2ft tank. Can you advise me what are the parts required (apart from PVC pipe) to do the under-mentioned piping?

I used the calculator at Reef central and was told I require a return pipe diameter of 1.43 inches. What is the closest size pipe I can use?

Thank you. :bow::bow:

Hi! I'm no expert but what I can suggest is to use union joins for easy removal of your pump and plumping for maintanance and cleaning.

Use Ball valves to control the flow.

For the return plumbing, use 45deg elbows instead of 90deg ones.

Always do the plumbing work once you completed your sump.

Do not use PVC glue at once. Cut your pieces first and fit them completely. Once your happy with the plumbing, remove the pieces then use the PVC glue and join them. Remember, once you use PVC glue and join the parts, there is no turning back within seconds! I've got lots of wasted plumbing parts.

After a day or two then run the system with fresh water. Check for leaks and solve it. Easier to solve problems when your using fresh water. Using fresh water and running the system is also good as it will help to clear the system.

Hope this info would helps you. :)

if u want to silicone those pipings or male/fenale thread to the tank and u do not 1 2 uneven surfaces of the dried silicone,wet ur fingers with soap water then even the wet silicone with soapy fingers,tis will result in smooth surfaces of the silicone to the tank or etc.. ;)

if possibe replace the some of the elbows with hose as the elbows might decrease the water pressure and flow if i not wrong.

as for the pipe to the slump get a larger diameter and using a ball valve to contro the flow as we are using gravity to does the job
