Hi, I just bought some hermit crabs from ML to serves as some scavengers in my tank. My question is do I need to worry about giving them new and bigger shells as they are growing?

Yes, you have to... or they will kill your big snails for them.

hm.. i've heard otherwise, that the hermits will just go about their normal lives if they cannot find a bigger shell... especially since the hermits from ML are prob dwarf hermits that don't grow much anyway...

Mine have been doing fine for couple of months now... never seen them attack a snail... YET

i know 2 spotlights.... one of them at tampines central, just outside the MRT station in the same building as the This Fashion & Cash Converter. the other one is in orchard, next to centrepoint shopping centre...

For those who are looking for those shells...

I found mine from the old Singapore Turf Club (Bukit Timah). There is this store where an old couple selling some shells,,,they are using it to make blinds and decorative items. Ask them for more...n they will show u more, more n more...

whether they are reef safe is another thing.

they may have been laced with invisible chemicals then when placed in water, will slowly leech out to poison your tank

My hermit about 1 year. Bought two shell, first big & second smaller. It scrutinised the shell on both incident. But doesn't want to migrate.

It is really hardy, medication, hypersalinity & copper treatment, still alive and kicking

Read from books that the hermit will not outgrown their shell...They will grow acc to the size of their shell.

Onli when given larger shell, then they will grow bigger...

Thankx for the offer. My hermits are still small, I think it will be a while when I need to get them bigger homes. Hopefully, I will get a bigger tank by then.
