devil,

from the post, u will see that after a while, the wave maker will get jammed and become no different from a conventional powerhead.... i was caught up by the idea too.. likewise with many ppl.. but the performance leaves much to be desired... ;)

I think a wavemaker is simply powerhead connected to a controller and which these controller will switch on and off the various powerhead to simulate the current experience in the sea. Not all powerhead can hook up to a controller as most of our Powerhead cannot withstand the on and off cycle for too many times. Remember most of the power head that we use are deigned to use 7x24. Some of those powerhead used in the wavemaker can even be tune electronically to increase or decrease the output, and these are done at the controller end, hope this help.

bluebeard,

the wavemaker being mentioned here is the same as a powerhead except that it uses a mechanical device to rotate the outflow direction from left to right. once the mechanical device is jammed, it is just as good as a normal powerhead.

CT, the wavemaker that u talking abt, it something like TUNZE wavemaker where it operates on a solenoid to direct the waves or switch on the powerhead at the stipulated times.. seen it at seletar FF.... quite impressive..

The model that they are using at T95 is the older old, i think it is 2002. The flow is very strong but concentrated, may be harmful to coral and it is not cheap, i think it is about USD$150-200. The one that Tanzy has just bought recently is one of the latest model that still will generate strong flow but is distributed.
