NO3 outbreak

Recommended Posts

Recently my tank just suffer a major set back as one of the pipe burst and release about 80% of my tank water. As a result I had to fill it up quickly with the alive fishes and corals. Now when I did a quick test i found that my NO3 has gone up to 80ppm anyone can tell me the fastest and safest way to reduce the NO3 other than changing water. :(

If it is only NO3 then you don't have to worry too much provided that you did not meddle with your sandbed or filter.

The reading will slowly drop as the bacteria get to work.

Changing water will be a good option if the reading keep getting higher.

Alternative you can try out some of the nitrate removing product.

Like what darren said, use AZNO3 for a quick measure to bring down NO3. I tried this product and managed to to bring down the NO3 from 80ppm to 0ppm in 3.5 weeks. Must have a working skimmer. Best price I found is $40 at SL.

Best long term is by NNR method like DSB or plenum. De-nitrator does not work very well because need constant adjustment and feeding to work effectively.

Good luck.
