dear Shiok, remove the patch immdetialy. it is not the normal algae that we are looking for. If it is slimly, most likely it is cyano. But can't comfirm.

The algae/bacteria is covering your rock and will cause aerobic bacteria on the rock surface to die. I will advise you suck out the algae/bacteria.

If it is cyano, your fishes will not toch it also. :(:(

I'm not sure about the 2nd pic,

but the 1st one on the rock is!! :P

in this case the red slime variety.....

Don't panic.

heres a nice link to a page that will tell you all

about cyanobacteria,

what fuels it and how to remove it by addressing the

root of the problem.

In most cases...tap water top up, overfeeding or overstocking.

 , I use this method to remove my cyano once and for all. but i add it a few more steps which i have miss out earlier hence the misunderstanding.

1.Siphon or remove the affected rocks or sand.

2. Change 20% of saltwater

3. Realocate your PH or Eden so that there are movement of water to the affected area

4. As per instruction from a fellow reefer.

Dose in the Red Slime Remover(RSR), do not feed your fish or operate the skimmer

Mine take only 1 treatment of the RSR to completely remove the

cyano. It take 4-5days to completely rid out cyano in my case (but it all depend on how serious/big the affected area individual have)

Change another 10-20% of saltwater after the cyano disappear completely, operate your skimmer and resume feeding.

You may want to use Poly Filter to remove the medication(I didnt though)

I have cyano attack in my refugium too, growing on top of my macroalgae, with cyano bubble too. But strange enough my main tank do not have it. Is it due to the lighting as my refugium on 24/7 and my main tank is 8/7 with FL only?

Check out the pic..I trim all the cyano already. Now seaforse is more comfortable.

dude,

did you read the thread?

there might be many things that contribute to your cyano outbreak.

from lights to poor water conditions...

but what is the cause?

if you siphon the red part, which i dun really advocate...

it will just regrow...worse if it floats away and starts another\patch somewhere else

adding the Red Slime remover is one way...

but it is a temp solution, moreover it will reduce the

oxygen level in your water, so use wisely.

only you can find out the root cause,

tackle that issue and the cyano will just disappear.
