where u bought the CBS?

actually if your tank is big enough or got enough hiding space, the danger is not that great.

from what i see, CS is a better swimmer than CBS, so escape easy.

my CS got 'bully' when they just molt!

CBS is quite easy to catch i think, all depends the landscape of your tank.

shrimps are at their weakest when they molt... no protection shells to protect them...

I got my CBS for $3 from Reefworld. About 3 inches long. (excluding all the feelers and stuff) and a CS from Hong Leong at $6, this guy is about 4 inches long. They live in harmony and has never been seen fighting with each other. The CBS has molted about 3 times already... but yet to see the CS do the full monty yet... but it being single, eggs has appeared in its pleopods twice in 2 months already... very, very strange.

hi guys. i just bot mi CS and fire shrimp from Marinelife. cs@$8, fire shrimp@$9.... wanted to buy 2 CS intially but oni 1 is good one, the other 2 looked weird wif some kind of cyst growing on their sides so tot not veri healthy... so ended up buying the fire shrimp...

the FS veri beautiful but the best part is after i put them in the tank, the CS went into the rocks straightaway...the FS loitered on the glass and stayed there! i tot its supposed to be shy? now its like 2+ hours after it went in the tank, and its on the sand....didnt even touch the rock yet....

oh yeah at marinelife i was observing a CS n CBS when i saw the CBS lunge at the CS suddenly... guess tts y no CBS for me yet...

btw, do u guys feed ur prawns? or just leave them as they are n try to throw in a few extra bits of food for them to scavenge later?

maybe your new shrimps need more time to find a spot for them to settle in.

i usually don't really feed my shrimps, they will just eat whatever that fall to the bottom that i feed the fishes.

Leave it, nothing's wasted in a reef. Something will eat it. Even hermit crab shells which are thicker and harder will disappear in a day, nothing will be left except the pincers.

Can anyone advise?

I have seen the CBS climbing all over my corals n sometimes pinching with its pincers - the most harassed were the sea mats which will immediately close up and heliofungia (anemone-like plate coral).

Is this unwanted attention harmful to the corals? :(

dun think so,if u watch they open within minutes(which they won't if it harmed them).

i've had my CBS do that for as long as i can remember.& Its now half a palm size(not counting feelers).

come to think of it,my CS does that too only that it runs along faster.

CS and CBS don't really eat corals. But I do read somewhere that they get irritated by CS and CBS who stomp all over them inconsiderately. Nothing to worry about, they will open up after awhile. No harm done.

But, I wanna tell you how fast these guys eat up anything thats dead. I was feeding shrimp feeders (ghost shrimps) to my anemone when I got a shock from my CS. It darted up at me (actually more like towards the shrimp I was holding). Within seconds, it had dismembered its head :o with its pincers and was eating its brains out literally! After this, it left the empty shrimp head shell and started on its body... finishing it up within 2 minutes ++. :)
