Hi tunicate, I now understand what you're trying to say after looking at your diagram. You are running the return pump externally but still inside the ISO. The problem now is how did you attach the return pump above the water?

The return pump that I'm currently using has a removable nozzle at the water outlet (see below pic circle in red). I removed the nozzle & reattached to the pump from the main tank, clamping to the IOS glass partition. You may need to find a replacement nozzle with a longer thread if your glass partition is thick.

Yeah, I'm was always afraid that Mr Murhpy will pay me a visit last time.

Take a look at how bro Ah-lim use a plastic tub in his 2nd chamber for DSB refugium (link below).

Just have a bigger 2nd chamber in your IOS to accomodate a plastic tub. It's portable, & you don't have to worry about Mr Murphy anymore. ;)
