You meant when they 'puffed' up?

Well...I used to have one before I gave it up for adoption...my Puffy will just 'puff' up for a few moments before it deflates itself...

So far it has never been in danger due to such situations...however, we got to analyse the situations when it puffs up and those were 'stressed' circumstances like...

1) my hands in the tank

2) I fish it out

3) alarmed by approaching silhouette...

IMO...as long as it is in a conducive environment and with no 'perksy' and 'darting' fish such as damsels...it should be fine... :)

Btw...they have voracious appetite too... :)

You mean yours actually do puff up? I am having 2 now... and (forgive me people) no matter what I do, they just don't puff. The 2 fellas were having ich when I first put them in the tank but the next day the white spots were gone.

Sloppy eaters too. They simply rip all the pieces of shrimp I put into the tank... The way they eat kind of like cookie monster from seasame street... having small bits all over the place. I am having a problem of unable to put any scavengers to clean up, since any crab, prawn I introduce will become food.

Cute fellas too, with their crystal deep blue eyes...

Another thing I read is that (correct me if I'm wrong) if they puff up in the air and not under water, they'll have lots of air trapped inside them and WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DEFLATE THEMSELVES AGAIN and hence die really really soon..

So I think that unless absoloutely necessary, you shouldn't scoop them out of the water and if you do, please be careful!!

Good Luck with your puffer, though..

Need to correct myself...I only scooped it up twice when i upgraded my tank and when I was trying to catch it up for adoption... :)

Yup...it puffed up due to stress and of course...stress is detrimental to its welfare... :(

So far it does alright...eating well and swimming well... :)
