Your return from the skimmer should'nt be directed back into the middle compartment where your skimmer feed pump is, by doing this ur skimmer is partially skimming what it had already skimmed earlier.

2ndly the middle compartment is loaded with fine chips? If the bottom of the chips get plugged by debris overtime the first compartment is gonna get flooded n overflow out.

U will also need to either put a cloth over the water coming out of the skimmer or some media sponge so that it prevents micro bubbles from going into your maintank.

Just to share with you all, i research for my master project with NTU and UOM using marine sponges to as a bio filter to break down organic waste subst and examine the distingeration of the sponge cells and regeneration of its cells upon different chemicals waste esp copper compounds which are common with industrial wastes. Indeed, the are self regeneration upon chemical stress....

cheers

Are u going to use marine sponges for ur reef???

and spent 5 years in marine keeping and hv been successful and this hobby is ur family life.....

....u still using the kopi tiam net for filteration??? :whistle Will it work???

not sure your first sentences is a insult or scarcastism, that is for reduction of noise. filtration done liao on top

Bro, i think the first compartment is not going to work efficently.. It is not a canister, is not pressurized, water will not flow through each layer smoothly... I will strongly suggest that you take away all the media and coral chip away..

Bacteria cultivate from lr will be enough to handle the nitrogen cycle, just give it enough time to cycle and stock up slowly.. you have good skimmer, it should be able to handle the bioload well, and by regular water change with high quality salt mix, water quality will be great.. Media need lots of mantainace..

Fr with po4 remover will be a good investment..

Hi White Tiger, just wondering, wouldn't it be advisable to cycle with the LR in tank? What i understood was that cycling with LR will allow the bacterias to cultivate on the LR and Sand?

So are you planning to cycle somemore with the LR?

But i must admit, you're really patient to wait 2 weeks, just to see nothing but water + sand...

Thumbs Up for you!

For me, i just dump LR + sand (some are from other matured tanks)... throw in bacteria starter, and cycle for 1-2 weeks...

After that, 6 baby chromis are added to tank... to date, only 2 of the 6 are left... haha... But they're growing on strong.

Rock scape wise, it seems like the slope is a little steep to place corals(come attached with rocks) firmly... you may wish to ensure the bridge it's a flat horizontal piece, rather than sloping... (my 'Arena' was sloping on both sides, it's really tough to place corals, unless you use any bonds/adhesive stuff.)

the LR has already been cycle for more than a year as i took it from my lab :) so by right the tank can be used almost immediately

ya what u said is true, the slope is indeed very steep, i will try to rescape, it will be quite diff cos the rocks are big....

Are those hair algae on the rocks? Can't see clearly, but if it is, I would prefer to get rid of it before it manifest the whole tank. You could use more rocks though. Do you plan to cover the overflow area?

And yes, you've pretty much arrived to the fun part of reefing... getting those lovely corals and fishes! B)

Hi all,

I have start to place some soft corals in the tank. Will post the pic soon.

However, i start to noticed crabs climbing up disturbing the corals. Is is safe for the corals or they just curious? or cleaning up? How can I remove them, since quite diffcult after a couple of tries

Signz....

I've got some crabs hiding within LR as well. To me, they don't pose a big problem... In fact, they eat up unfinished food, so it's good.

But if u really wanna trap them, try the "prawn meat in a chicken essence bottle" trick. it usually works.
