Hi.. i am having a tank with a height of 2.5 feet and i would like to keep sps right at the bottom of my tank..

i am now using T-5 (10xtubes (510watts) ) of ATI power modul but it doesnt seem to be able to keep sps at the depth of 2.5feet away from the lights..

so was thinking of changing into MH 400watts X 2 with two 20000 BLV bulb ..

reefers can share ur point of view wether 400 watts mh will be able to do he job?

any better suggestion?

thanks

400 20k sps will not grow.

10-14k be the best

ok...so what does 20k do for sps , colouring up only?

Anyway What brand and type of bulb Combination will be good for 400watts ?

i am actually looking at coralvue Electronic ballasts which is dimmable.. but was wondering dimmable mean that i be able to control the watts right? like dimming from 150watts and max 400watts?

20K for good coloring but slow growth. 6.5K for fast growth but all sps will be brown. 10-14K as Xiaochew mentioned is the best. I use 12K.

Yup, dimmable ballast will lower the wattage.

But, IMO, no point using dimmable ballast. Just full blast the MH

10k-12k is to simulate natural light spectrum of up to 5ft

14k til 6ft

20k for deeper than 6ft. Usually u need to pair off the 20k with a 10k-14k to get good results. The higher the 'K' the dimmer the light, its not what most reefers think the higher the K the better. Hope this helps. Also using a 400k MH with just a depth of 2.5 might be overkill, some SPS might bleach.

400 watts on a 2.5 feet tank is okay. When electricity was a lot cheaper then, I used 3 x 400W MH on a 4 ft x 20 inch deep tank at 10 inches from the water surface with outstanding results. Corals turned pure sky blue at 4 inches under the water and growth was .5 to .75 inch a month.

SPS can never have enough light. Now my 400 watts light can barely keep blue tips at 2.5 ft deep. Just my experience.
