Hi reefers,

1. May i know if i purchase dead rocks, do i need to soak them in freshwater first? Or alternatively i soak with seawater and let the skimmer do the job? Please advise if there are other ways to go around.

2. Which places can i get cheap and big dead rocks? I'm staying at the west side.

its best to wash it, scrub it, rainse it.

saltwater or freshwater doesnt matter.

and i got one rubbin bin size container containing all dead rocks but mostly relatively small ones.

I would go for dead..

Firstly you never know if its really cured.. putting in a pail with just an air pump doesn't make it cured..

Secondly you never know the condition fo the person's tank. Ich, some fish disease, algae, Worms, non-reefsafe critters, mantis shrimps, .. you get the point.. you will never be able to get them out unless you rescape or bring your rocks out to do something.. which then you would probably get 'half-dead' rocks again.

Curing process is easy.. takes only few weeks.. why risk it because you want it quick? In this hobby, everything must wait.

Back to the topic. If you want it safe, scrub them clean.. doesn't matter fresh or salt water since they are all dead..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

Was thinking of starting from dead rocks because i have heard some reefers sold live cured rocks but found out that is uncured.

I think the good part of having dead rock to start off is no crabs or any unwanted living stuff in it that's quite difficult to get rid off at later stage and the bad part is got to cycle longer to make it live back.

Sm ppl actually boil the rocks in hot h20 to kill everything in it b4 putting it in tank to starts cycling.
