siphon it out, but of course you need to replace the water. Easy to get the sand out from around the rocks this way.

Real reefs don't have glass bottoms....(...think about it)

I'm thinkin of siphon out the sand to a pail/tub and return the water back to the tank till the sand bed cleared.

Is it possible :whistle ?

btw, It's a 5 months old RSM with original 2~3 inches thick of sand bed.

did you lay your rocks on the sand previously?

cos if you did, the rocks will probably collapse.

anyway, siphoning the sand is the best option but dun think you should return the water back into the tank as i suppose there are tons of unwanted stuff in the sand like PO4 and nitrate,,, take it as a change of water, prepare 40% will be good...

Good idea. Siphoning out the sand on one tub and topping at the water from another tub concurrently so that PO4 N NO will not spark out alot.

thanks.

wow...please also update us if can use the Tunze 9002 without removing the skimmer lid. Photo please/ :thanks:

I have no time to fix it into the RSM tank yet. By the phyiscal measurement, the skimmer lid no need to take out but have to lift up.

Here come my DIY IFS with 9002.. :eyebrow:

9002.jpg

Top layer is white filtering media and the bottom layer is the active carbon.

Where the water intake? Is the water return from skimmer returned back to filtration media?

No. the water from inlet of the RSM to the water in of the IFS 1st layer then out from the bottom to the skimmer. See attached picture.

This whole IFS and 9002 will sit inside the skimmer chamber.

This is almost similar to the invention made by jireh...

Cheers,

bgrking

This IFS method is already commonly use inworldwide..but design of IFS differently :whistle ! My RedSeaMax tank already used the same concept and if I'm not wrong....some branded tank already incorporated this IFS in the tank long long ago... :whistle ! So c see :eyebrow: who is the invention :eyebrow: ?

Bro is it possible the skimmer sit lower and the filter cover can be closed completely? I also don't like the design of the original skimmer in RSM.

Not possible leh. coz water level have to be 1.5~2" below the 9002 neck and dun 4get the cup height too.

Hi Bro thedidavid,

Is 6055 too strong for RSM tank? I'm thinkin of getting one but afraid of sand storm.

can advice  ?

I set my 6055 at 18V means only running 2000-2500 l/hr, tested at 5500 l/hr to strong ar..fish also get blown if ventured near to the Tunze 6055 at full blast. Anyway Tunze 6055 with controller is very flexible, setting can be set up to your satisfaction. This is the reason I decided to 6055 and only run 1 wavemaker rather than few units. It definetely will create some sand storm if pointed direct especially with the live sand it has finer grain compared to the argonite from RSM. What I do just difused the flow to the LR.
