help needed....how many inch should the MH.......

8 inches to 12 inches.Far enough so as to not get splashed by water.

I think the best is about 8inches from the water level in your tank.. far enuff to avoid slat creep etc etc and near enuff to have max light penetration. This is what i have learnt from the expert n snr reefers here anyway...

Its not the height on where you place the MH matters but instead it is more of the wattage of the MH, sps need very high lighting to grow and coloured up better >250

my tank is only 3 feet ....and the bulb is 150 watts/10k.......the brand is sylvania .....good enough or not ar ???

so far now my tank is jammed packed with lps like hammer ,frogspawn, alot of brains,montipora gorgonians galaxea elegence coral....just to name a few...planning to upgrade to sps....

you might need 2 mh fixtures than....if you going sps, 150W wont cut it.even with 250W, you would have to place them pretty high up.

No try not to give wrong infor... hey with 150watt you can keep sps when you place them high up, just that the colour of the acro will turn brown for most cases actually i have one that is changing back to green and also thy will not grow as fast compared to the ones place in >250watts.......

Try about 8 inches. But it really depends.

If you have only 1 x 150W , it might not be enough.

If you have 2 bulbs, then it is more or less sufficient. I agree with Dispar that SPS will do better in stronger lighting.

What about thos MH that come with stand? I think they are only 5 inches high.
